ADOT Red Mountain San Tan Loop 202 Freeway from University to Elliot

Description

This project consisted of milling and repaving the Asphalt Rubber Asphaltic Concrete Friction Course (AR-ACFC) on the Red Mountain San Tan Loop 202 Freeway from University Drive to Elliot Road, both northbound and southbound.  The existing AR-ACFC was milled and replaced at a depth of 1″.  The milling covered approximately 135,000 square yards of area and the paving totalling in approximately 6,200 tons.   The work was completed under a full freeway closure during two consecutive weekends.  Construction took place from 10:00 P.M. Friday night until 5:00 A.M. Monday morning.  Sunland crews worked double shifts each weekend in order to meet the time constraints.  Because of the size of the project and the amount of area that it covered, Sunland utilized three milling machines side by side in order to allow our paving crews to start as early as possible the following day.
