As announced last week, Sunland has some new teammates from Ace Asphalt! Alma is one of our new teammates. As Recruiting Manager, Alma works with the hiring managers by proactively aligning business needs with recruiting field construction positions, including CDL drivers, equipment operators, laborers, and specialized construction positions. What is challenging about your job?

Most candidates are actively pursuing multiple opportunities at the same time, which creates challenges in connecting with candidates and the interview experience.

What interests you about working in the construction field?

I enjoy seeing how everyone’s skills and natural talents come together overtime and really shine as we find our way into the work force. Now more than ever, the convergence of construction, technology and natural talents can create amazing results. Seeing projects go from an idea, to paper, to assembly is truly fascinating.

What is your advice for other women pursuing a career in construction? 

Do it!  The never-ending adventure is worth it.

How can we attract more women to the construction industry? 

Continue to create and provide a culture that is positive, supportive, and encourages personal and company-wide success.  A culture that encourages all employees to treat each other with respect and allows for growth and development.
